So, it ought to look -not so good if not terrible. What you are then doing in this demonstration, if I understand you correctly, is not truly processing the raw file through to the point where it is finished. Opened up in the editor, a raw file ought to look more bland, less sharp, possibly with a different color balance, and possibly lighter or darker than that embedded jpg-which is what you see in the browser.
Unfortunately (IMO), that embedded jpg misrepresents the raw file-it makes it look different/better than it really should as a raw file. You are not really seeing the real raw file at all. Well, first of all, the "previewer" is using the embedded jpg to show you an image-without doing so you wouldn't be able to see the file at all.
